Nexa Digital Design System
The project's second phase focused on creating a custom digital design system called Nexa. Its key elements are defined in detail in the Cultural Historical Thesis and implemented in the project. Nexa establishes a solid foundation that is responsive and highly consistent.
Defining the layout structure and deciding on a column-based layout were among the first and most crucial steps in establishing the digital design system. The layout is a strong foundation and driving force. Therefore, defining it at the beginning of the design process was essential. Considering how the layout structure would transition to other screen dimensions was essential during the design process. In the digital landscape, layout organization is crucial for creating adaptive, flexible designs when the display format is unknown. Therefore, I ensured that during my design process, I considered infinite screen dimensions and how the design would respond correctly to its environment in real time. Defining rules formed the foundational logic and tied the entire digital design system together. Establishing this framework at the beginning supported the later creative design process. Approaching design systematically and strategically allowed me to identify some challenges I would have in the design beforehand.
Rather than designing the same element multiple times, wrapping it in reusable components preserved creative energy for thoughtful design decisions and avoided redundancy in design and web development. Component-based design helped immensely in the design process, especially by ensuring consistent creative choices and organized web development.
The Nexa Digital Design System was created in Figma, tested, and implemented in the creative project, ensuring it serves as the foundation for both the visual design and the underlying code.
